UPDATE: The threat of severe thunderstorms has moved from the area and has been lifted. The region is still under a flood advisory until 4:45pm
We hope everyone enjoyed their President’s Day weekend. As a special treat for returning back to work today, Mother Nature has hit us with severe rains and possible thunderstorms. Here is an alert send from ReadyMontco Alerts:
Severe Thunderstorm Warning
Beginning: 2016-02-16 T17:29:00
Ending: 2016-02-16 T18:15:00
PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCE DAMAGING WINDS AND VERY HEAVY RAIN. FOR YOUR PROTECTION…MOVE TO AN INTERIOR ROOM ON THE LOWEST FLOOR OF YOUR HOME OR BUSINESS. THERE IS LITTLE TO NO LIGHTNING WITH THESE STORMS. HEAVY RAINS FLOOD ROADS QUICKLY SO DO NOT DRIVE INTO AREAS WHERE WATER COVERS THE ROAD
I should also add that we are experiencing major floods along our roadways and creeks. The majority of the flooding is caused by the ground still being frozen and no place for the water to soak into. Please use caution when driving as the wind mixed with heavy rain can be blinding. Elmwood Park may also experience road closures throughout the day so avoid that area, if possible.
