Alright, it looks like no more snow storms will hit us for the rest of the season. Now it’s time to start talking about outdoor activities. The Norristown Project is ready to get back outside and host a full season of community cleanups and events. This Earth Day, TNP is joining Norristown Municipality on a town-wide cleanup effort!
On Tuesday, April 22nd, TNP, Montgomery County OIC and Norristown Municipality will team up for a community cleanup near the OIC building. Volunteers are asked to meet at the OIC building at 1101 Arch Street at 10:00 am. They are the old Hancock School on the corner of Arch and Basin Streets. The event will go until 1:00 pm. If you can stay the entire time, that would be great.
The cleanup will take place on the 1100 block of Arch and spread to the community around the OIC. The alley behind the OIC, again, is a destruction zone. A large tree fell over the Winter, blocking the alley from emergency vehicles being able to pass if a fire emergency were to happen. The neighbor on Green Street has yet to clean up their mess, but we won’t touch it. Instead, we will pick up trash and other debris in the alley as well…so when the resident on Green Street cleans up the tree, the alley will be passable for firetrucks.
The majority of the work will be picking up trash in the surrounding neighborhood and giving the neighborhood a good SPRUCING up.(see what I did there? Spruce Street is one of the areas we’ll clean!)
TNP has gloves, tash bags and other equipment needed for the day. Also, Norristown Municipality will provide volunteers with vests and safety equipment. Dress in clothes you’re not afraid of getting dirty. Children should be in school that day, but if you have a little one, they are welcomed to join!
RSVP is required so we can have a count of how many people to expect. Denise Ashe at the OIC will be the point-of-contact for the event since I will be out of town. To RSVP, simply add your name in the comment section or email NorristownProject@gmail.com givng us a heads up. Please share this information with the community so we can have the biggest impact this Earth Day.
We look forward to seeing you April 22nd as we work towards protecting the environment this Earth Day!
